Job Description

Location: Remote
Compensation: Phantom Equity (early team pool)
Type: Full-Time / Contractor

🌍 About the Opportunity
Inkognido is building compact, stylized, high-energy Realms β€” small worlds packed with personality,
tight gameplay loops, and AI-driven encounters.

As an Environment Artist, your work will define:
The visual identity of each Realm
The mood, tone, and atmosphere of environments
How readable and clean the world feels during fast combat
How stylized visuals enhance gameplay clarity
This is not β€œbig open world” environment art.
This is tight, intentional, designed-for-replayability space building.
If you want your art to shape gameplay β€” not just decorate it β€” this role is perfect.

πŸš€ Your Mission

You will build the environmental assets and world pieces that define our Realms.
Your responsibilities will include:
Stylized assets
Modular kits
Landmark pieces
Lighting passes
Atmosphere + vibe
Optimization for performance
Supporting level blockouts with real geometry
You transform designer blockouts into beautiful, functional, readable game spaces.

πŸ›  Responsibilities

Create stylized environment assets (modular sets, props, landmarks)
Translate level design blockouts into visually polished scenes
Optimize meshes, textures, and materials for performance
Work closely with level designers to preserve gameplay readability
Build cohesive environment kits that designers can reuse
Implement lighting, atmosphere, and color palettes
Collaborate with FX artists to enhance impact moments
Maintain visual consistency across Realms
Document environment guidelines and style references
Your art will be the visual language of the Inkognido Realms.

🧠 Requirements

Must Have:
Strong portfolio showing stylized environment work
Proficiency in Blender/Maya or equivalent 3D tools
Experience texturing (Substance Painter/Designer, etc.)
Understanding of modular workflows
Experience delivering game-ready assets
Good sense of composition, color, and readability
Ability to iterate with designers and engineers

Nice to Have:
Experience with Unity or Unreal scene assembly
Knowledge of lighting and atmosphere
FX or shader experience
Interest in compact, replayable level design
Ability to prototype simple materials or visual effects
This role is ideal for artists who love crafting worlds that support fast-paced gameplay.

πŸ’‘ Why This Role Matters
Every Realms session is short, intense, and highly readable.
That means your art must balance:

🎨 Style
πŸ‘€ Clarity
βš”οΈ Gameplay visibility
πŸƒ Flow + movement cues

Environment art drives the player’s emotional experience:
The tension of a tight hallway
The relief of an open arena
The danger of vertical drops
The curiosity of a glowing landmark
The storytelling of ruined architecture
You help build worlds that players want to explore again and again.

πŸ† What You Get
Phantom equity (meaningful early allocation)
Ownership over Realm aesthetics
Direct collaboration with Creative + Tech leadership
Fast iteration and creative freedom
Highly visible work across all Realms
Opportunity to influence the artistic direction of multiple worlds
This is a role where your art will define a universe, not just fill it.

βœ‰οΈ How This Role Works With Others
You will collaborate closely with:
Level Designers – Ensuring art supports flow and readability
Lead Unity/Unreal Developer – Engine implementation + optimization
Gameplay Engineers – Hit clarity, navigation readability
Creative Director – Tone, color palette, and style cohesion
FX Artists – Moment-to-moment polish and emotional impact
Narrative Team – Environmental storytelling hooks
Environment art sits at the intersection of aesthetics + gameplay.
