Job Title: Injection Molding Helper / Machine Operator Assistant

Department: Manufacturing / Production

Reports To: Production Supervisor / Lead Operator

Job Summary: The Injection Molding Helper assists Injection Molding Machine Operators and Technicians in the efficient and safe operation of injection molding machines. This role is crucial for ensuring continuous production, maintaining product quality, and contributing to a clean and organized work environment. The Helper performs essential support tasks that enable the molding process to run smoothly.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Machine Operation Support:
  • Monitor injection molding machines for proper operation, alerting operators/technicians to any issues, alarms, or malfunctions.
  • Remove molded parts from machines according to established procedures, ensuring part integrity.
  • Perform secondary operations on molded parts, such as trimming flash, degating, inspecting, and assembly, as required.
  • Load and unload raw materials (plastic pellets) into machine hoppers, ensuring the correct material is used for each production run.
  • Assist with mold changes and machine setups under the direction of an Operator or Technician.
• Quality Control:
  • Visually inspect molded parts for defects (e.g., flash, short shots, warpage, discoloration) and separate defective parts from good parts.
  • Perform basic measurements using gauges, calipers, or other measuring tools to ensure parts meet specifications.
  • Report any quality issues or concerns to the Lead Operator or Supervisor immediately.
• Material Handling:
  • Move finished products to designated staging or packaging areas.
  • Assist with grinding scrap plastic for reuse, if applicable.
  • Maintain accurate counts of produced parts and complete necessary production logs or paperwork.
• Housekeeping and Safety:
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area around the injection molding machines.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including wearing appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to management.
  • Assist with routine machine cleaning and basic preventive maintenance tasks as instructed.
• Teamwork and Communication:
  • Communicate effectively with Lead Operators, Technicians, Supervisors, and other team members.
  • Be willing to assist other production areas as needed to ensure overall operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Education: High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a plus, particularly in plastics or machine operation. On-the-job training is often provided.
• Skills:
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify visual defects.
  • Good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, counting).
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Understanding of safety procedures and willingness to adhere to them.
• Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25-50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, reach, and lift as required in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must be able to work in an environment with moderate to loud noise levels and potential exposure to airborne particles and moving mechanical parts.
